On September 30, 2017 many of our Great Pyrenees “alum” brought their families to the Appalachian Great Pyrenees Rescue kennels for a day of food, fun and fund-raising. The weather was perfect – a sunny, almost Fall day. Absolutely delightful!
Joining our forty Pyr alum were three canine companions and eighty three humans. Keeping with our tradition, everyone lunched on barbeque, pasta salad, munchies and delicious desserts. No one went home hungry.
Besides relaxing and talking to other Pyr owners, there was plenty of shopping to pass the time. While many bought our new sweatshirts and tee shirts, or shopped at the Bargain Table (thank you Petco for many of the items) or purchased items from For Dog’s Sakes Mosaics, others placed bids on nearly four dozen Silent Auction items. Silent Auction items included a certificate from The Law Offices of Marie Washington for a Durable Power of Attorney, blankets embroidered with a Pyr head by the owner of Quilter’s Corner in Richmond, an extra-large dog bed and gift baskets from Chewy.com, gift cards from restaurants (Maggiano’s, California Pizza Kitchen, Mellow Mushroom, McCormick & Schmidt’s, and Olive Garden), a gift basket from PetValu, and a number of items donated by our attendees.
The event brought in $3,500. To put that in perspective, those funds will cover the cost of feeding the Pyrs on site for the rest of the year.
Many thanks to Becky Huddleston Photography, Mike Diegel, and Celeste Miller for capturing the day’s events.
And we can’t forget the dozens of volunteers behind the scenes – we could not have done this without them. Many thanks to everyone for making Pyrfest 2017 a big success!
